Intro
My projects overall theme focuses on the Ronin (A masterless samurai) who often wander without a purpose or belonging in the world. I want to use this to create a comic book narrative that follows this character along a path dealing with issues from the past and challenges along the way. The reason I decided this was because I am interested in comics (X-men, Batman, Marvel) and thought it would be an interesting way to display it. However I felt it would be quite hard to capture the essence of a superhero, so have made the choice of a Ronin as its powerful because of its symbolism especially among Japanese culture which I find to be really interesting.
The main focus will be through visual storytelling and unlike a normal comic book I plan to have the backgrounds as images with illustrations on top to really capture the atmospheric nature of these scenes throughout the comic...
For my photography I plan to do multiple photo shoots (3+) to really make sure I have enough photos to build my comic and be a foundation for my illustrations. I will take photos of bandanas, robes and accessories for costume, swords, props, other objects I could later illustrate into weapons. I will also take photos staging some scenes such as battle scenes, so for this will take photos of woodlands, fields, Japanese gardens and other places that will set the mood and atmosphere of my comic. Finally, I'm thinking of more detailed and close up shots to potentially incorporate into the final piece.
In my personal study i will write about Saul Bass and his work is what will influence a specific part of my project, stage 5 where i will produce film posters to compliment my comic book.
